1: Important Survival

Electric Energy is of utmost importance for the survival of modern life. The prosperity of a country is directly linked with the supply of energy.

Energy is a Power that drives every human being. It is not lost by exertion but maintained by it.

Germaine Greer

2: Need in every Sector of Life

Electricity is needed in every sector of modern life. The working of railways, hospitals, business centres, entirely depends on electricity.

Without energy, our farms and industries will stop production.

Our houses, trade centres, roads, schools and colleges will turn into a graveyard. Unfortunately, the production of such a vital thing is insufficient in Pakistan.

There is Energy and Power in crisis.

Andrew Cuomo

3: Production of Electricity

The production of electricity is far less than the growing needs of our farms, industries, mills and factories. The production of our country is growing at a very rapid rate. The production of electricity is far less to meet the increasing needs of our future.

The result is that we have to resort to load shedding in Pakistan.

4: Reasons for its Shortage

We generate electricity from water, oil, coal and gas. Water is the cheapest source of producing electricity. We have failed to build KalaBagh Dam. Had it been built, the power supply would have been plentiful and at the same time, it would have been cheap.

5: Thermal Power

The electricity generated by coal, oil and gas is very costly. The electricity produced by these elements is called Thermal Power.

The setting up of a thermal power station is highly expensive for a developing country. The electricity supplied by the thermal station is not affordable for consumers. It is not even suitable for the competitive industry of a country.

6: Nuclear Energy

We can produce electricity with nuclear energy. Nuclear Power stations are not easy to set up.

Nuclear reactors are very high-priced mostly, western countries utilise nuclear power.

7: Demand for Electricity

The demand for electricity increases due to the electrification of villages. The new housing colonies also need it for domestic use. This has increased its demand.

8: Consumption of Electricity

The use of electricity increases in summer because the use of Air-Conditioner is increasing every year. Therefore, consumption of electricity increases as compared to its generation.

9: Measures to save Energy

The measures to save energy have badly failed. The business centres, hotels, roads and streets are lit up during night hours. People use electricity as generously as possible.

The entire nation suffers from indiscipline. All the lights are always ‘on’ in the houses.

10: Causes

  1. Ageing of equipment
  2. Wastage of Energy
  3. High loss of fuel
  4. Un-use of coal

Most energy crises have been the results of local shortages, wars and market manipulation. Some have argued that government actions like tax hikes, nationalisation of energy companies, and regulation of the energy sector, shift supply and demand of energy away from its economic equilibrium.

11: Effects

  1. Badly affects education
  2. Great effects on the industry
  3. Effects on economy

12: Campaign to Save Energy

  • We can fight against the energy crisis by adopting the following manners. The generation of electricity can be increased by setting up more power stations. We should build more dams to store water to produce electricity at cheap rates. “Energy can’t be created or destroyed but it can be converted from one form to another form”
  • Nuclear energy should be used as a major source of energy.
  • The government should undertake research to find ways and means to generate more power by cheap sources.
  • Solar energy can be used as a main source of energy.
  • A campaign in electronic media should be started to save energy by all means. The masses should be made aware of the true nature of the power crisis.
  • All business centres should be closed after 8:00PM. Marriages should be held during the daytime only. In this way, we can save a lot of energy.

Energy conservation is the foundation of the energy Independence.
